Why Debate?

Debate is an interscholastic academic activity that places a heavy emphasis in rhetorical skills, research, persuasion, and argumentation. Although there are several different aspects of debate, the end goal is education. Through in depth research, debaters are able to learn about a plethora of things from international relations, philosophy, domestic politics, science, and much more. Debate prepares participants for the future in ways that most other activities can’t due to its academic rigor, research focus, note taking skills, and the in depth discussion and problem solving of real world issues.
